Submit meter readings and distinguish meters

Every energy supplier uses your meter readings to calculate how much energy you have used. If you have a smart meter, they will automatically receive your meter readings. Do you still have an old analog meter? You will then be asked three times whether you want to provide your meter readings. We are happy to explain when and why.

With a smart meter you don't have to do anything!

With a smart meter, you can submit meter readings automatically. It works like this: if you have just received a smart meter, your energy supplier will ask for permission to read your meter readings remotely. After your permission, your grid operator will automatically send you your meter readings every day. With a regular meter, you have to report your meter readings to your energy company yourself.

With an analog meter you have to report it yourself

When preparing your annual statement, your supplier will automatically contact you with a personal link or own recording number. Use this number when submitting your annual readings online, so that they are sure that it concerns your meter readings. If your supplier does not receive your meter readings, they will estimate your consumption.

It is important to check the meter readings on your annual statement if you are just starting out with a new supplier. When you move, your energy company will ask for the meter readings of both the new and old addresses. The positions at the old address are used for the final settlement and the positions at the new address as the starting position for the new address.

Submit meter readings in the event of a rate change

When there is a change in your energy tariff, energy suppliers will estimate your meter readings if they do not receive them. If you want to prevent them from estimating the meter reading, provide your current meter reading on the day before the start date via your supplier's website or app. For example, if your rate change takes effect on January 1, please submit your meter readings no later than December 31.

Please note that they do not transfer the scores directly, but they do calculate them accurately.
