From June 1, we will again offer energy contracts with a fixed price. Is this something for you? To what extent do these differ from the “old” fixed price contracts? Read all about our new fixed price contracts below.

Is a fixed price energy contract better for me than a variable contract?

The question is what you find most important about your contract, because both permanent contracts and variable contracts have advantages and disadvantages.

With a permanent contract you pay the same rate for delivery, return payment and standing charge for the entire term of your contract. Your rates do not decrease or increase when energy prices change. On the other hand, you pay a cancellation fee if you terminate your contract before the end date.

With a variable contract, your delivery rates change several times a year. You pay less when rates fall, but more when they rise. However, you can cancel your contract on a monthly basis.

Are you unsure between a permanent or variable contract? We will then be happy to help you make the right choice based on your specific needs.

Is it wise to fix my energy rates now?

It is difficult to determine in advance whether it is wise to opt for a permanent contract. This depends on when you conclude your fixed energy contract for, for example, 1 or 3 years, and what happens in the period afterwards. It is similar to buying or selling shares. If you enter into a permanent contract and the energy rates subsequently increase significantly, your supply rate will remain the same.

No one can predict exactly how energy prices will develop. Of course there are certain patterns, such as often a price reduction after the winter. But when something big or unexpected happens, like a war, things can be different. With a permanent contract you mainly buy security for an agreed period. It depends on the energy market whether your energy costs will rise sharply or fall sharply after the contract expires.

It is always wise to carefully weigh the pros and cons of both permanent and variable contracts and base your choice on your personal situation and preferences. If you have any doubts, we are ready to help you make the right decision.

Is a fixed contract cheaper than a variable contract?

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. The honest answer is that you do not know in advance whether a fixed price is cheaper than a variable rate. That depends on how energy prices develop after the contract has been concluded. No one can predict that exactly. You can only make the real comparison afterwards.

It is understandable that you want to know which choice is best for your situation. It can help to consider your energy consumption, your budget and your personal preferences when making a decision. Our team is ready to support you and answer any questions you may have so you can make an informed choice.

What is different about the new fixed contracts?

The fixed price contracts from June 1, 2023 differ from the 'old' fixed price contracts in one point: there are new rules for the termination fee. These rules apply if you terminate your contract before it expires.

As a result, the amount of the new termination compensation may vary. The residual value of your contract determines what it costs to terminate the contract early. For more information about the new ROVER 2023 cancellation fee, please visit ons eerdere blog.

Advantages and disadvantages of a fixed contract

An energy contract with fixed delivery rates has certain advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of a fixed contract:

  • You have the certainty of a fixed delivery rate during the term of your contract.
  • Price increases do not affect your delivery rate. You continue to pay the same rate, even if energy prices rise.

Disadvantages of a fixed contract:

  • If you decide to switch before your contract ends, a cancellation fee may apply.
  • You do not benefit from lower energy prices. If energy prices drop, your supply rate remains the same.

It is important to weigh these pros and cons and take your personal situation and preferences into account when choosing between a fixed or variable energy contract. If you have any questions or would like more information, we are ready to help you.
